Life in the Little House

Finally, we are settled. After packing up our house at the end of August, we've now moved and are living in a small house on the northside of Waynesburg. The location is great, directly across from the library and just a block from a beautiful park. Everyday the kids and I take a long recess to the park where they chase squirrels, jump rope, make leaf piles, play tag or soccer, etc.
The house itself that we are renting is about half the size of our home in Pittsburgh. It doesn't feel like home and probably won't for the short time we'll be here. We have three bedrooms (two very tiny bedrooms that only have space enough for the beds), and one bath. The downstairs has a nice little living room, a spacious dining room that we use for schooling, a small galley kitchen and sunny little laundry/toy room and pastel painted walls everywhere. The space is great for our current needs and we are thankful that God provided it.
Getting this far was a bit challenging. We spent our first week out of our home at my mom's house. (Thank God for family!) Then, the next week we were in the Outerbanks of N.C., followed by a week at a lovely place in Williamsburg, VA. It was in that third week that we nailed down a place to live in Waynsburg. The house was not ready for us after Williamsburg, so we spent a week with our Baily family out on the very lane we are building on. So, for four weeks, we dubbed ourselves the homeless Bailys. We were very thankful for this little house to move into.
So just over a month, and we're finally settling in to this little house and some new routines. The older boys have joined cub scouts and enjoy some new friends they've made at church. Eliza started learning the violin and attends a library class every week. And Joel and Josh continue to keep us hopping! They love to get out and exercise. They run, run, run, and love a good chase. And the kids really love being close to their cousins. They get to see them a couple of times a week. The move, so far, has been wonderful for Dave's work. It's nice for him to have support staff and to work closely with his brother, Mike. He's also been able to spend a lot of time with his brother, Tim. I enjoy seeing the closeness of his relationships with his brothers. As for me, I'm getting out at 6 a.m. on Friday mornings to meet with a few ladies at the local Bob Evan's. We have breakfast and have a book discussion. Most of my time is spent looking after my family and our little house. Life already is busy here. (Though I've been asking God to help us eliminate hurry from our lives and to help us have a nice pace and a lot of time to just enjoy one another and this life he's given us. I'll write more about that later.)
We miss our home in Pittsburgh. The kids always ask if we can visit it when we get back to the city. Even more than our home, we miss our family and friends. This change will take time to adjust to. Often the kids think about Pittsburgh, and if we were able they'd love to get back there multiple times a week. We made it back two Sundays ago and enjoyed time with Grandma and Hannah and several friends. It was a great blessing. We also got to worship at Eastminster. That was wonderful! We'll be heading back this Friday to enjoy a day with Grandma and Hannah at the museum. And thank God for the phone. I'm thankful I can keep up with my mom and little sister throughout the week.
That's it for now. Big change...little house. God is good in everything.
