Everyone's Learning Something

I wanted to take some time in this post to share with you some of our most recent at-home adventures. Our week was full of disruptions, with doctors appointments and illness, yet there were still many things we enjoyed and learned.


Every Wednesday, we have music lessons. Eliza started to play the violin this year in October. Here is the Princess Violinist with her instructor, Devin Arrington. He is also Isaiah's instructor. Eliza loves to practice and play

Nathaniel also takes lessons from Devin. He is working on his most difficult piece to date called Cuckoo. It takes a lot of practice to make our hands play different keys at the same time. Nathaniel is a dilligent practicer. I learn a lot about discipline from his work on piano.








During our music lessons, Josh uses the time to practice feeding himself. He loves his little toasts and it sure occupies him for fifteen minutes or so. Joel (below) is also honing his self feeding skills. We're going to work on keeping our face clean next month.



This Saturday, we had science Saturday. Last summer, we learned about birds and did a considerable amount of bird watching and identification. So, in the spirit of that wonderful hot season, we put together bird feeders for our feathered friends. Each of the kids designed their own feeder from a left over milk or juice jug. We also talked a little bit about reusing things instead of just throwing them away.


We're hanging our feeders out on a random pole that happens to be in our back yard. The next project is to make another feeder or a bird house to go on top of the pole.

Nathaniel and Eliza's feeders both had perches with low placed holes for the birds to feed from. Isaiah's feeder has bigger holes and no perch. He wants the birds to fly inside to eat. We'll see what happens. So far we haven't seen a single bird, but it's only been 18 hours or so.



Later in the afternoon, we started planning a small summer garden. Plants and gardening will be our summer focus. Eliza is bent on growing strawberries and the boys want to plant pumpkins. I'm interested in basil, cucumbers, and tomatoes. Hopefully, we'll have the energy for follow through.

Next time, Isaiah is planning on taking all the pictures for the blog. He's limited to only five pictures that will actually make the post. He doesn't love having his picture, hence, he's absent from this post.
