Isaiah was assigned the task of photographing the African animals we observed. The male lion put on a good show. He and the lioness were resting on a heated rock. He lifted his head slightly and then let out several short roars. A few moments later, he stood on all fours and lifted his head to roar again. It was fascinating.
Next we were entertained by the ostrich. After running down the muddy slope, he stood before us, bobbing his head up and down. For a moment, he looked as though he might try and cross the ice covered creek that lay between us. Then, he sloshed his way back through mud to the top of a small hill. In the background, the zebras kept their backsides to us as they munched what little grass was there. 
Finally, we made our way to the elephant house. All the elephants were in the new addition to their quarters, and we had a large glass pane to look through and watch these incredible animals.
Currently, there are two baby elephants at our zoo. They are simply adorable. The one little calf kept nursing on his mama; while the other one insisted on trying to take the zoo keepers baton out of his hand. The adult elephants mosied to and fro with hay all over their backs. Just before we planned to leave the elephants, the keepers opened their outside entrance and the elephants ambled out into the mud. It was fun to see them up close outside.As we were leaving, we were able to see the rhinocerous. He was busy sharpening his horn on his gate. The scratching noise drew our attention to him right away.
The giraffes and antelopes were not on exhibit; and, the leopard was hidden away in his wooden house. We were able to spend fifteen minutes or more observing each of the other animals, and they put on a delightful show.
